Trip to Jeolla Province with Tours by Aaron
Located in the central southwestern part of the peninsula, Jeolla-do was named after the initial syllables of its two major cities: Jeonju in Jeollabuk-do and Naju in Jeollanam-do. “Jeon” plus “Na,” when connected, is pronounced “Jeolla.”
Jeonju is the capital of Jeollabuk-do. For a brief period of time, Jeonju served as the capital of the Hubaekje Kingdom, or Later Baekje Kingdom (892-936). Also, later becoming the hometown of King Taejo of Joseon (r. 1392-1398), Jeonju enjoyed many special benefits.
Jeollanamdo Province & Gwangju, South Korea
Jeollanam Province (South Jeolla or Jeollanam-do) is located in the south west corner of South Korea and is bordered by water to both the west and south (the Yellow Sea on the west, and the Jeju Strait on the south).
This beautiful southwest province is one of Korea’s least developed and greenest.
With a comparatively balmy climate, Jeollanam-do is famous for its bountiful harvests, fresh seafood and green tea, celebrated in several festivals. For all its rural atmosphere, Jeollanam-do has urban elements too: Gwangju, the province's largest city, has a hip vibe and an active arts scene centred around a new, much-hyped cultural centre.
